Hiatus

Why havn’t there been any posts on this site recently!

Hello Everybody!

It is good to take a minute to write again. It has been too long since I have posted on this blog. When I started the blog over the summer, I was feeling very inspired to read as much psychological research as possible in an effort to share it with you guys. This was my original goal with the blog, mainly because I felt that so many topics covered in my psychology courses really helped me with my overall well-being.

This past term, however, I felt that my studies specifically in psychology were pushed aside in favor of studying philosophy and religion. Some classes I took included a survey of several religions that are in existence today as well as history of western philosophy (with figures such as Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle). I found many topics in these classes to be useful in my overall quest for well-being as well, but I was unsure of how to include them in my blog if I was to focus specifically on psychology as originally intended. For example, Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle were all very interesting to learn about, as well as some Eastern philosophers such as the Buddhist monk Vasubandhu and the Chinese philosopher Confucius, who is the central figure that gave rise to Confucianism. In short, I was really interested in these figures and other topics from this term, but I struggled to figure out how to relate them to topics in psychology.

I also became heavily involved with my university’s Newman Center, which is one of several catholic campus ministries that are present at public universities in the United States. Through this, I have found a phenomenal community in which we all work on loving God and loving others to the best of our abilities. Needless to say, I have found scripture from the bible to be very fulfilling, and have also been reading the catechism of the catholic church along with other stories of people with powerful testimonies. Again, however, I struggled to make the explicit connection to psychology until recently. What I have found, however, is that I can’t restrict such a large topic such as happiness to one subject, which is why you will now see posts outside of the field of psychology. For example, I have thought about posting some of my philosophical papers from the past term on this site periodically. I am also hoping to post reflections to biblical scripture verses when possible and tying them into topics in positive psychology. I have also found eastern philosophy to be interesting, and so perhaps periodically I can offer reflections on this as well.

All in all, while this blog may be taking a different direction as I go forward, I really am looking forward to continuing this journey with all of you guys who have followed me to this point! Several of you guys have joined the community in the past three months despite my inactivity. I am so glad that the content resonates with you guys enough to subscribe to my page! One thing is for sure: each post will always be with the intent to help all of you in your journeys toward flourishing and well-being. I am also very open to suggestions, and so feel free to leave a comment about any recommendations on topics you would like to cover through this site. Stay tuned, and as always, I hope you are all doing well!

  1. Prior to becoming a Registered Nurse, I was majoring in Psychology…it was obedience to God that caused the shift in my focus to minister to those with physical and mental health challenges. There are many individuals who believe in God; yet, they are plagued with hopelessness from the vicissitudes of life. The combination of believing in a Higher power along with therapeutic intervention provides guidance and evidence that there are options. Redirect your focus from religious doctrines to the promises of God for victorious outcomes. Pray for guidance, you will receive the appropriate spiritual messages.
